My dear friends,
I am writing this with the wonderful Holy Week and Easter services still in mind. So many people commented on them, and expressed appreciation for the whole experience of Holy Week. The journey from Maundy Thursday, to Good Friday, to Easter Eve was something words cannot describe. The Vigil was particularly marvelous. Then we returned again on Easter Day for more -- climaxing in a packed church for High Mass. 166 communicants have not been seen at All Saints' for many years! It was all lovely, and so inspiring.
Eastertide concludes on Sunday, May 30th - the feast of Pentecost. The outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the apostles that day was the fulfillment of the Easter mystery and the beginning of the church as we know it. It also reminds us that for the next 6 months we have to live as people empowered by the Spirit to live the life of the risen Christ. Soon we will be in that green season, when we are bidden to grow in our faith and love.
