do not have female acolytes - indeed the other anglocatholic parishes in the diocese have had them for years. I have been delighted to have a fine group of young men to assist at the altar - but I also feel that the ministry of acolytes should be open to both males and females at High Mass. I write about the subject in detail on pages 11 and 12.
FUNERAL INSTRUCTIONS In the December magazine I mentioned that I was rewriting the parish FUNERAL INSTRUCTIONS booklet. This is now finished, and copies are available from the parish office. DATES FOR YOUR DIARY It may seem a long way ahead, but I want to give you notice of a special occasion in May. On May 17th I will celebrate my 60th birthday. Friends from interstate and overseas have indicated they are coming to San Diego for this event, so I am compelled to celebrate it! The date is the day after Ascension Day - so on THURSDAY MAY 17th we will have a High Mass at 7 pm, followed by a parish party. My good friend, Fr Stephen Powers is coming from Virginia Beach to be the special preacher. In actual fact, given the time difference between Australia and San Diego, when the Mass starts it will be the time that my mother gave birth! LENT PROGRAM The season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 21st. There are 3 Masses that day - please see page 6. As usual, we have a busy Lenten program. Details are on page 7. Stations of the Cross will be held at 6:00 pm on Fridays. There will be an extra Mass at 6:00 pm on Wednesdays, followed by the traditional Lenten supper provided by our Cursillo group. Then the usual study groups will be held in various rooms and the parish hall. Last year the theme was our Anglocatholic tradition. This year we are looking at our spirituality.
